“FUCK IT I Can’t Be Bothered To Exercise” – Lifestyle Coaching
I’m sorry to swear in a blog but I felt it was appropriate for this one. The FUCK IT switch is very powerful and something that needs to be considered very carefully. As well as swearing I will also get a bit spiritual and a bit philosophical, which won’t shock those that have already worked with me.
What’s promoted me to write this blog today was a client that I trained this morning, who will remain anonymous.
My client is married, a mother of two and has her own business and had been ill with a tummy bug over the weekend. Her session with me was 6am and she needed to be back at her home for just after 7 to take her children to school and then onto running her own business with two huge campaigns fast approaching. Having over slept and still not feeling great I’m sure the FUCK IT switch was strong, but she turned up and trained.
Expectations Are Pre Meditated Resentments
Quite often our expectations are to high of ourselves, and if we cant train at 100% then what’s the point, so FUCK IT I’ll exercise tomorrow. I approach my life and my clients with a spiritual aspect. Humility for me is the key to maintaining a good level of fitness. I messaged my client after the session to thank her for turning up, my reply was that she was sorry and would do better in future. What she doesn’t realize is that what she did today was special and beautiful. To oversleep whilst feeling ill and still manage to get out of bed and exercise takes courage and for me sometimes our goals need to adjust.
Humility is about being right sized, no better no worse just accepting who you are. For me this is a daily practice because I only have today and I cant measure myself by what I did yesterday or what I may do tomorrow. How am I today? what am I capable of today? So when looking at ourselves like this, our goals need to be reactive, they need to be humble they need to adapt and change. We need to be aware of the bigger picture.
My client turned up and trained today, whilst she may have felt her goal was to exercise the same or better than her previous sessions it was in fact today, having still felt sick and overslept just to get out of bed and turn up to the training session so her trainer can do the rest.
Listen to your fuck it switch, be humble with where you are at today, be honest with yourself, consistency is key to achieving your results, feed the right wolf (or the right fuck it switch) before the other wolf gets too strong.
I will leave you with this.
A wise old Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, “my son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good. It is joy, peace love, hope serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”
The grandson though about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “which wolf wins?”
The old Indian simply replied, “the one that you feed.”
